I have been following Danny's unique work for some time now and have really enjoyed seeing New Zealand's native birds come to life in her polymer clay artworks.
When the opportunity arose to collaborate with her on a Kārearea commission, I was more than happy to offer one of my images as inspiration for the piece. The images below showcase the journey the artwork has taken from inception to completion. It's always nice to see how an artist converts one of my images into his/her own art form. The intricate detail that Danny has managed to achieved is mind-blowing.
As this piece was a commission, the original artwork is sold but Danny Rae Design is offering a Limited number of prints of the Kārearea and these can be bought here.
The Kārearea in the artwork is 'Hatupatu' - an adult male New Zealand Falcon that was released from Rotorua Museum in 2013 as part of the 'On The Wing' project - a joint project between Rotorua Museum and Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust
